Duties of City Carrier Assistant Jobs:
Report to the supervisor all unusual occurrences or conditions related to mail delivery, including the condition of street letter boxes and central delivery equipment.
When a route is assigned, other routes become specialized in the casing of mail as assigned.
As a CCA, can perform clerical duties and is required to pass exams on the City Primary Distribution Scheme.
In addition, may perform any of the following duties: Check hotels and other establishments to ensure that undeliverables to residents, as addressed, are improperly handled. Not kept from delivering stamps or other paper supplies to contract or classified stations and other designated delivery points; Works on carriers’ delivery window; receive and register where practicable, all letters and packages of first-class matter duly presented for registration; Mail cases and deliver to other routes as assigned.
Routes or cases All classes of mail in respect of delivery along a fixed route. Rearrange and relabel cases as needed.
Withdraws mail from the distribution case and prepares it for efficient delivery on a scheduled route independently or by another carrier as ordered. Prepares and sorts mail of all classes for trucking to relay boxes en route for subsequent delivery.
Handles undeliverable mail according to established procedures.
Delivers mail on a fixed route, by foot or by vehicle, on a regular schedule, picking up additional mail from relay boxes as needed. Straight collects mail from letterboxes and accepts mailings from customers. Some routes may deliver mail that consists only of parcel post, or mail collection.
Uses portable electronic scanner according to instructions.
Delivers and collects charges on customs, postage due, and C.O.D. Mail Matters provides and receives receipts for registered and certain insured mail. Marks for such matters other than insured postage at the post office before starting the route and accounts for the same on return by delivery of payment of sums collected and receipts taken.
In-route deposit on return to post office deposit.
If necessary, check and correct advertisers’ mailing cards containing the names and addresses of customers or former customers on the route.
Provides postal information to customers and provides the change of address cards and other postal forms as needed.
